Grail

Grail. 2014; clay, resin, artist’s saliva; 5” x 3” x 3”.

In antiquity, saliva was believed to have healing properties – while, in medieval times, the chalice called the Holy Grail was believed to have regenerative powers. This piece examines the historical tendency of human beings to hold ideas or objects sacred, and create vessels as an expression of their desire to preserve them.
